Common Injuries In Rugby League
Rugby league is a very physically demanding sport the body puts itself under a lot of pressure having to train every day then play a high intensity game for 80 minutes. From putting the body under such intensity eventually players will start to get injuries from doing so much high intensity activities, these injuries are sorted into three types overuse, soft tissue and hard tissue injuries
Dislocated Shoulder
Dislocated shoulder is a common injury in rugby league. This is because the shoulder is the most mobile joint in the body which allows Dislocations occur when bones that are normally connected to the joint are separated. These occur when the joint experiences an unexpected or unbalanced impact. The Dislocation of the shoulder is classified as a hard tissue injury because it is the bone moving from the joint though more often than not the bone isn’t harmed in anyway, when the bone moves from the joint it damages all of the surrounding soft tissue which means means it can also be a soft tissue injury. The Dislocation of the shoulder is a direct injury as it is sustained from either the impact of another player or the impact of the ground. When the shoulder is relocated back to its original position the injury can be an indirect injury as it can harm any surrounding ligaments, tendons, muscles etc.

Syndesmosis Sprain (High Ankle Sprain)
Syndesmosis Sprain also known as a high ankle sprain is another injury that footballers face. The high ankle ligaments are located above the ankle they are their to connect the tibia to the fibula. High ankle sprains occur from rotational injury much like fractures to the ankle. They are very common in impact sports. An external rotation which means when the ankle is rolled outwards is the most common way for the ligaments to tear. If an athlete has injured these ligaments they will have a lot of pain at the top of their ankle. The Syndesmosis Tear is a soft tissue injury as it is injuring a ligament. The syndesmosis tear is an indirect injury as the athlete has damaged a soft tissue in this case the high ankle ligaments.

Shin Splints is the common term for medial tibial stress syndrome. It is when pain occurs anywhere along the shin bone from the knee to the foot. Shin Splints are an overuse injury Athletes that have shin splints play sports that usually involve a lot of running so rugby league player is a prime example for someone who may encounter shin splints. One of the major causes of shin splints is when an athlete tries to exercise beyond their current level of fitness, Rugby league players training everyday and twice a day on some days. Training at this intensity applies large amounts of pressure which in worst cases can cause stress fracture in the shinbone.
